How many gifts do I need to give at a wedding?
Some friends of mine are getting married in May. I’ll say right off that this couple is far “better off” than anyone else in our social circle. They asked that my daughter be their flower girl, which I agreed to. And that set me back $100 for dress and shoes (for a toddler, ouch!)
In addition, there is a bridal shower, couples shower and a bachelorette weekend that will cost each of us $125. The brides sister says it is protocol for me to buy a gift for each occasion including the wedding. This could easily cost over $500 total, which would really be stretching our finances (goodbye summer vacation!)
Is all of that really necessary???
If you do get something for each shower, get some small. $25 is plenty. You’re already spending more than enough for your daughters attire and the showers/party. If they want to make a big deal out of gifts then they aren’t true friends. Do what you are comfortable with and go no further.
