Wedding help needed!?
hi, i’m 19 and my best friend is now getting married, i’m maid of Honor, she’s getting married in a church. It’s not going to be an expensive wedding, and today i got told what i would be wearing:
purple knee high dress (not braids maid more evening) vest type top half that kinda flares at waist (buying it from BHS)
black tights
black shoes
black Accessories!
Is it just me, or is this seriously wacky? I really don’t want to wear these things it’ll look stupid!!! need other opinions and how do i tell her without hurting her feelings that bridesmaids can not wear purple and black in a church! Or is it just me? lol She’s 19 and doesn’t have a mother or a older woman to ask for advise, someone needs to tell her it’s just wrong. HELP! PLEASE!
thanks guys, really was a lot of help, cheers xxx
Hi Madeleine,
Believe it or not, it probably won’t look as bad as you picture it. I was a bridesmaid in late September. The bride choose black and eggplant purple as her wedding colors. At the bridal shop, I found out that I actually looked better in knee high dresses. This is the dress I wore, but I had it altered so the hem was slightly above the knees. The dress was eggplant and the trim below the bust line was black. http://www.alfredangelo.com/Collections/ProductDisplay.aspx?productID=ac6e187d-40b1-46b8-b110-972bc512e45b&categoryID=772f03c9-de43-4942-bfa0-da77e21ebd65&pg=4
Shades of purple tend to look compliment all skin tones. There were 5 of us bridesmaids, 2 black girls, 1 light skinned korean girl, 1 olive toned mexican girl (me), and 1 white girl (maid of honor) who is naturally ruddy in complexion.
If anything, ask the bride if it would be okay for you to wear a black dress with a purple sash as an accent. That’s what the maid of honor did in the wedding I was in.
I think would be best not object to the bride’s choices and taste. The main point is to support your friend, and to cherish this special occassion with her. Let her be happy. She will be forever greatful to you for your unconditional love and support =)
P.S. I wasn’t too keen on eggplant purple either, but I wore it with a smile for my friend.
